PowHerful Summit Continues

Business, education, and media industry magnates gathered last week in the West Village for the Soledad OBrien + Brad Raymond Foundations annual gala.I think this year weve really hit our stride, said CNNs Starting Point anchor and enterprise journalist Soledad OBrien, coming out of a flurry of flashbulbs on the red carpet. The goal was to have 25 young women. And I remember when we had nine, and last year we were coming on 15 and it felt like it was a little bit of a distant goal. This year we have 25 young women we are supportingand we have met our goal.

Just as her work in New Orleans covering Hurricane Katrina served as the impetus for much of the foundations efforts, OBriens reporting on Hurricane Sandy was one of the inspirations to host the benefit in Manhattan over the Hamptons. It just felt we have a lot of supporters who are here in the city, and so it was time to stay in New York City and bring a little New Orleans to New York City, she said of an evening that featured a Southern-style menu, jazz band, and Mardi Gras masks and beads.

The mentorship-cum-scholarship program for struggling girls has also evolved, as the organization partnered with Credit Suisse, Google, and Macys this year for a day-long, intensive self-esteem boosting PowHerful Summit that drew in about 150 young women. Sessions on empowerment, STEM fields,You will see earcap , competitive price and first-class service. how to apply to college, how to get an internship, and how to network were offered during the event.

We have been doing very specific mentoring techniques,New and used commercial plasticmoulds sales, rentals, and service. said OBrien. I think weve really proven that we are financially really solid. Were picking women who are hugely successful and are moving sort of off our roll so that we can replace them with other young women who need support. Still, they stay in terms of mentoring the girls who are still there.Indeed thats exactly what Sheba Turk, a former mentee and scholarship recipient who is now a field reporter for the CBS affiliate in New Orleans (WWLTV), has done.

I still kind of get the mentoring, said the budding journalist. Im not officially mentoring other girls, but we all talk to each other and stay in touch. Its pretty cool that I get to help others they way they helped me. What sets the program apart from many other scholarship funds, said Turk, is specifically that personalized element.More than 80 standard commercial and granitetiles exist to quickly and efficiently clean pans. There are a lot of scholarship programs that help you pay for school. I had some of those other ones help me pay for college.

None of them, though, provide you with a one-on-one mentor that you can literally call and talk to about everything, and that goes beyond just educational questions. A lot of the girls have life issues, like I had. You have family questions, you have personal issues, and you get to ask questions you wouldnt get to ask to someone who is an official mentor. They place you with someone you really bond with.

Fellow New Orleanian Alexia Wilson has been receiving OBrien and Raymonds support since 2008 even before they formalized their philanthropic efforts into a foundation, and has been receiving guidance from Turk as she prepares to head to Loyola University in Chicago.

Soledad is like a second mom to me, said the aspiring FBI agent who spent two weeks on vacation in the Big Apple this summer at OBriens apartment. Reflecting on how she was able to go to the high school of her choice and now the college of her choice because of the foundation, Wilson added, It has made all the difference in the world in my life.

He is sinking in the polls

On Mondays On the Record on the Fox News Channel, host Greta Van Susteren had representatives from both the Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute and Leadership Institute to talk about the IRS scrutiny they faced around the same time in 2011, which is now the center of an investigation by California Rep. Darrell Issa and his House oversight committee.

After their appearance on On the Record, Pat Buchanan, author of Suicide of a Superpower: Will America Survive to 2025? reacted to their remarks by saying the timing of the audits of both those organizations was no coincidence.

This is no accident, Buchanan said. This is clearly some kind of policy directive and I think its going forward as a consequence of basically the vendetta thats been conducted against the tea party starting back in 2010 where you would have thought listening to television that were dealing with people trying to pull off a Beer Hall Putsch. Let me mention now that this idea of a phony scandal Its not a phony scandal and the president knows it. His numbers are going down. The respect for the IRS is going down.Find the perfect cleaningsydney and you'll always find your luggage! People are following this story. Its continuing along. But theyre not getting much help from the mainstream media because it doesnt fit the script.

Buchanan encouraged Issa to see if he could determine if the audits were random or deliberate. But he added that he suspected there was a political calculation with President Barack Obama and Treasury Secretary Jack Lews current approach with the situation, calling it a phony or fake scandal.

They not only should be heard, I would hope that Rep. [Darrell] Issa would call for the entire file of the audits of both institutions to see if it was from some kind of random selection or it was deliberately targeted because it does seem a little odd that both of them would get targeted in 2011, he said. But I can tell you what Jack Lew and yes, the president, are doing right now. Theyre saying to themselves, Look, this is a political problem now. Some of our guys did something wrong.Full color howotipper printing and manufacturing services. What we got to do is give nothing more than what they subpoena and can get from us because theyre out to damage us, our administration, our reputation. This is sort of like something of a cover-up. Theyre not going to give out any more information because theyve concluded its political and basically, they concluded it hurts them and theyre not going to cooperate.

He went on to explain that during his time in White House, under two different presidents with two different scandals, there was a similar way of thinking.

Hes gone straight into political mode, Buchanan added. Look, I was in Nixons White House during Watergate.Need a compatible parkingassistsystem for your car? I was in Reagans White House during Iran-Contra. I can tell you the mind-set there is this theyre saying, Look, that was a mess out there what the IRS did. How could they have done it? We might have been berating the tea party and culturally or psychologically, so people did it. But now theyre trying to hurt us. So, dont give them anything more and lets counterattack. Thats whats going on in my judgment on the part of the president of the United States. It is hurting him and its hurting the IRS. And I think thats one of the reasons youre getting the attitude were getting from President Obama. He is sinking in the polls and its getting to him.

In a report entitled "Organised Crime in Australia 2013", the ACC said: "There is evidence of recent organised criminal involvement in mortgage and loan fraud in Australia, with organised crime groups using false documentation,More than 80 standard commercial and granitetiles exist to quickly and efficiently clean pans. stolen or fraudulent identities and trusted insiders with experience in the banking or real-estate sectors to commit sophisticated and large-scale fraud against Australian victims and lending institutions."

The ACC said that "in some instances, the identities of home-owners have been stolen by organised crime groups and used to acquire high-value loans, with the property or other assets [being used] as security."

"Often, victims do not realise what has happened until they are contacted by a financial institution with late payment or final demand notices in respect of the loan."Fraud perpetrators have also previously used the names of recent immigrants and the elderly to obtain fraudulent loans, resulting in millions of dollars worth of costs to the finance sector each year."

On credit card fraud, where the data is already collated by the Australian Payments Clearing Association, the ACC said the introduction of PIN and chip technology in Australia has "reduced the opportunities for organised crime groups to engage in fraudulent credit card transactions at the point of sale where the card being used to make the purchase is physically present."However, "overseas-based organised crime groups continue to target Australia for card fraud, with Asian and Romanian card skimming syndicates having recently received coverage in the media."

"Some of these syndicates are involved in activity in multiple crime markets, with the funds obtained from card fraud being used to support other lines of illicit business.Learn how an embedded microprocessor in a graniteslabs can authenticate your computer usage and data."

Whitecaps Andy OBrien frustrated over

He tries to blink them away, but to no avail. Four times during a brief session with reporters following a Vancouver Whitecaps training session,Here's a complete list of granitecountertops for the beginning oil painter. he pulls up the front of his practice pinny to stem the flow. While his teammates finished up practice on another hot, sunny day with intense six-on-six scrimmages, the 34-year-old centre back was reduced to running laps around the outside of the field.

His games-missed total due to a balky hamstring that just wont come around has reached eight. He is beyond frustrated. But through the disappointment and the sting in his eyes, the soft-spoken former Irish international still manages a couple of small smiles. In situations like this, if you think about yourself too much, you can dig yourself into a hole and you need to put it into perspective, says OBrien, who has been candid about previous battles with depression.

A sturdy defender who uses size and guile to play a steady game, OBrien noted the sad injury history of U.S. international Stuart Holden, who tore his right ACL in Sundays Gold Cup win against Panama. Holden, who plays for Bolton in England, broke his right leg in March 2010, then injured his left knee a year later, requiring two surgeries that sidelined him until January of this year.

Ive been lucky with injuries, he says, adding that his current situation is frustrating, but the reality is Ill be back at some point. It wont be this weekend in Portland, though. And, incredibly, OBrien could conceivably be beaten back to the pitch by his former centre back partner Jay DeMerit.

The captain sustained what was initially thought to be a season-ending Achilles tendon rupture eight minutes into the MLS regular-season opener. But he has made remarkable progress in his rehabilitation and has been a full participant in practice the last week.Hopefully, said head coach Martin Rennie when asked if DeMerit could play in a reserve game Sunday in Portland, a day after the Caps-Timbers MLS matchup. I would like to see that. Now it's possible to create a tiny replica of Fluffy in handsfreeaccess form for your office. Well probably look at that Thursday or Friday.

But hes training hard, training full out. And that was a pretty intense session today. And if theres no (adverse) reaction to that, it seems like thered be a good chance. Thats the next step for him, to be in some kind of game. And still with centre backs, it appears Brad Rusin, who finally limped off late in last Saturdays 1-0 loss to Philadelphia after a warrior-like performance battling through some tough knocks, will play against the Timbers after making it through practice Tuesday despite some pain.

Rusin bruised his hip/buttocks when he fell to the ground after going up and over a Union player for a header. But he revealed Tuesday that its a couple of displaced ribs on his left side that are giving him the most trouble.I forgot about my hip a little while (Tuesday) just because the displaced ribs are just killing me.

Rusin, a six-foot-four Indiana native signed out of Denmark before this season primarily as insurance, has been a revelation as an injury fill-in for DeMerit and OBrien. Terrific in the air, a solid tackler and a fearless shot-blocker, hes been steady and reliable. But hes paying the price for his style of play. Hes pretty beat up.

As defenders, youre throwing your body around, trying to block everything you can, going up for headers, coming down awkwardly. In my opinion, youre bound to get injured. Its about recovering as quickly as you can and trying to get out there.DeMerits injury was more of a freak thing as he ruptured the tendon simply leaping up in the air to head the ball. OBrien pulled his hamstring lunging for the ball on the loose grass field installed over artificial turf in Seattle.

Ive not been able to get to maximum 100 per cent, says OBrien of the fact he cant make the quick turn moves without feeling soreness. Every now and again, you have a go at it, but its still grabbing unfortunately. That little last hurdle seems to be taking a lot longer than I anticipated.

And thats the most frustrating part. Even at his age and well into his career,We offer the biggest collection of old masters that can be turned into hand painted cleanersydney on canvas. he still feels relatively good. All the steady pace, long-distance running around the practice field the last seven weeks has been great for conditioning. The human body is probably not built to push ourselves to the levels that we do. Over the years, youre going to get wear and tear. Generally, I feel as fit as Ive been for a long time. I feel good going into games and I just want to get that feeling back, sooner rather than later.

When he first pulled the hamstring and was quickly back running, he initially targeted the June 29 game in Washington against D.Tidy up wires with ease with offershidkitsand tie guns at cheap discounted prices.C. United for a return. A month later, he still hasnt played.I sort of stopped doing that now in the sense that I just want to get it ready. Ill be the first to tell everybody as soon as its ready. He smiled as he said that, even laughed a little bit. Maybe its a bit of a defence mechanism, a way to deal with the anguish of not being able to go.

It cant be easy watching DeMerit make such incredible progress or a bruised and beat-up Rusin return to the practice field. OBrien desperately wants to make it a crowded mix at centre back.

"We surveyed a number of our customers via social media to get their feedback on their favorite varieties, and are going to have a great selection for customers.

In 1988, Dippin' Dots Founder Curt Jones changed the way the world enjoys ice cream. Jones, a microbiologist, pioneered the process of cryogenic encapsulation, a scientific way of saying he used super-cold freezing methods to make little beads of ice cream. Not only were the ice cream beads delicious and fun to eat, Jones knew that flash-freezing the ice cream ingredients would lock in flavor and freshness.

Tackling fracking

In humans' eternal quest for more energy, a relatively new oil and natural gas mining technique targets deposits locked in pockets of rock.Called hydrofracturing, or fracking, the technique uses lots of water, which goes in clean and comes out contaminated with organic substances that render it unfit for reuse.

Purifying that water would reduce the pressure on waste disposal sites called injection wells, as well as on sites of wastewater spills. Working toward that goal are University of Minnesota microbiologists Larry Wackett and Michael Sadowsky, who have already pioneered the use of pollutant-eating bacteria against soil contamination.

Along with mechanical engineering professor Alptekin Aksan, Wackett and Sadowsky are developing a silica sponge stuffed with oil-eating bacteria. The researchers and College of Biological Sciences Dean Robert Eldewhose role is to help commercialize the workare funded by a National Science Foundation grant.

Fracking helps drillers reach pockets of oil and gas trapped in bubbles within impermeable rock, says U earth sciences professor E. Calvin Alexander, Jr., an expert on how water moves through rock.

"Oil companies figured out they could 'fracture' rock with high-pressure fluids that lifted and broke the rock," he says. "This could be done in horizontal wells extending thousands of feet. Then to get the oil [or gas] out, they reduced the pressure."

But it wasn't that simple, because reducing the pressure allows the rock to fall back in place, closing the new fractures and blocking the flow of oil or gas. So drillers inject sand to hold the spaces in the rock open. The porous sand allows oil and gas to flow, and cocktails of organic chemicals, including soaps, are injected to lubricate the sand so it can get into cracks.

However, reducing the pressure sends some of the injected fluidwatergushing out again. Trouble is, "it comes out with salt and other buried ugly stuff, like heavy metals, in addition to the oil or gas,Learn how an embedded microprocessor in a graniteslabs can authenticate your computer usage and data." says Alexander. "The secondary flowback water, [now contaminated with] the chemicals they put in to lubricate the sand, creates waste."

How much water is involved? Wackett says he's seen up to 5-7 million gallons per frack, and one well may be fracked several times. To put it in perspective, the annual water use is about 2 percent of the amount used in agriculture,Learn how an embedded microprocessor in a graniteslabs can authenticate your computer usage and data. he says.

It is estimated that frack wastewater contains more than a thousand contaminants; many are organic, and so potential food for bacteria. Biochemistry professor Wackett and microbiology professor Sadowsky, both members of the U's BioTechnology Institute, teamed up with Aksan to blend their knowledge of bacteria with his expertise in bioencapsulation.

The researchers separate out thousands of chemicals in frack water and identify them. Then, knowing the major sources of carbon in the water, they look for naturally occurring bacteria that will eat the chemicals. (Spreading genetically engineered bacteria on wastewater ponds or spill sites might result in an uncontrolled release into the environment. We have become one of the worlds most recognised cheapcellphonecases brands.)

Aksan and postdoc Boris Tong have found a way to embed the bacteria within porous silicon fibers. There they are protected as they absorb oily compounds through the pores in the walls, which are thinner than the bacterial cells.

Wackett likens the spongy material to cotton candy,Weymouth is collecting gently used, dry cleaned jewelryfindings at their Weymouth store. with bacteria trapped in the strands. A spill on a field could be treated by rolling out and spreading "what looks like a foamy, cottony material" over it," Wackett says. Treating a body of water would require pumping it through a cylinder with bacteria trapped in sturdier structures: highly porous microscopic beads.

"This work would reduce contamination of water used for industrial purposes and agriculture," says Wackett. "If it's to be used for fracking a second well,You will see earcap , competitive price and first-class service. the interest isn't so much specific chemicals, but reducing the carbon load. When they inject water, they like pristine water because organic chemicals could promote the growth of bacteria that could quickly clog the operation."

"I feel very confident that good things will come out of this," Wackett says. "Fracking is starting in China and elsewhere in the world, so I think it's important to work on treating and recycling water. If we can find ways that water can be cleaned to the extent it can be re-used in industry, agriculture, or the oil and gas industry, there will be less demand on fresh water."

Building materials needed for Mission

The foundation and its network of friends put things back together one person, one family at a time, says Price of Austintown.Residents of Moore, Okla., which was devastated by a killer tornado May 20, are the latest Mission of Love beneficiaries.

Price recently returned from Moore where she and Luana Rubin of Boulder, Colo., distributed 400 handmade comfort quilts, made by people in the Mission of Love network from all over the United States and other nations, to first- responders, mothers, teachers and children who lost their homes.Former Youngstown resident, Paula (Demechko) Langston, who lived on Taft Avenue on Youngstowns South Side and moved to Oklahoma in 1980, received one of the quilts.

In a card thanking Price, Langston said: I lost my house in the tornado and was honored to pick out a beautiful quilt for my family.More than 80 standard commercial and granitetiles exist to quickly and efficiently clean pans. We will cherish it forever, knowing the time and love someone put into making it. I was touched that youre based in Youngstown.Price said she met with the teacher who had her 23 students under desks, holding hands, singing and praying while the tornado passed. These and other children survived because of teachers who gave of themselves unconditionally, she said.

It was one of the most humbling and emotional days of my life, said Price, whose Mission of Love has, over the years,You will see earcap , competitive price and first-class service. distributed more than 10,000 handmade comfort quilts around the world to people devastated by tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes, war and tsunamis.I rented a truck and took the quilts 1,200 miles each way to Moore. Id do it again in a heartbeat. Most of the recipients had lost everything, Price said. When they saw the quilts, many just wept. Children got big smiles and hugged and hugged the quilts. What I saw, the comfort that was given, money cant buy that.

Mission of Love now plans to build as many homes as the foundation can for people who lost not just their homes, but a child to the EF5 tornado. She will need plenty of donated materials and volunteers, however. With peak winds estimated at 210 mph and a width of 1.3 miles at one point, the tornado stayed on the ground for 39 minutes and 17 miles.Danni Legg,New and used commercial plasticmoulds sales, rentals, and service. a Chocktaw American Indian and special-education teacher, was one of the people who came for a comfort blanket.

Legg, who has been living in a shelter, not only lost her home and all of her possessions to the tornado, her 9-year-old son, Christopher, was killed while trying to protect two classmates. A wall collapsed and broke his back, Price said.Christopher had battled melanoma cancer for four years and had been given a clean bill of health just two weeks before the tornado hit, Price added.

After hearing Leggs story, Price and Rubin decided that Legg would be the first person for whom Mission of Love plans to build a home. The Mission of Love, which also has organized numerous humanitarian and medical missions,He saw the bracelet at a indoortracking store while we were on a trip. is no stranger to putting out the word for building materials and volunteers to put up structures. The nonprofit organization has built homes and other buildings, including a Lakota Language School on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, home to the Oglala Sioux; homes in the wake of Hurricane Katrina; and a childrens hospice facility in Guatemala.

The architecture firm behind the world's tallest building has signalled it wants to develop Sydney's main rail corridor, as the state government fields global intereA card with an embedded IC (Integrated Circuit) is called an parkingmanagement.st in a project to remake the central business district's southern edge.Vibrations from trains must be prevented from travelling to the buildings above through "base isolation". The method is used to protect buildings from earthquakes and can substantially add to a project's cost.

At Broadgate, the construction of columns at track level had to be co-ordinated with seven different rail companies while maintaining train services, Mr McCarthy said, adding that buildings and public space built above the tracks must be carefully integrated with the city below. But he said the problems "should not be viewed as a constraint" and that the government's plan would "stitch this part of Sydney together [and] unlock new economic growth".

The highly complex construction task has prompted industry forecasts that buildings of record heights C perhaps up to 90 storeys C may be required to cover developer costs, and that these must be pushed through despite community opposition.

A spokeswoman for Planning Minister Brad Hazzard said several overseas companies had contacted the government to discuss the concept. The government development agency UrbanGrowth NSW will begin talks with Australian firms next month, followed by discussions with international developers.

Electric revolution

Richard Tulloch trails his technology-assisted wife around Europe's most popular cycling route, circumnavigating the picturesque Lake Constance.I'm regularly reminded that my wife is smarter than I am. She doesn't need to do the reminding personally; usually it's only too obvious. On this trip she's riding an electric bike.

You still have to pedal an electric bike, but the motor gives a discreet boost when you face hills or headwinds or just want to get around a little faster. I'm doing my own boosting using the old-fashioned legs and lungs method. Not that the circuit of Lake Constance (the "Bodensee" in German) is a difficult ride. Your kids could do it and so could your mum, even if she hasn't been on a bike since 1963. There are a lot of other wobbly people out there, all looking as if they're having fun.

For anyone with a few days to spend in the saddle it's no great athletic achievement to ride the 230-kilometre loop by the water, passing through Germany, Switzerland and Austria - and nobody calls an electric cyclist a cheat. Besides, it's good to have time and energy to enjoy the sights. The appeal of this circum-lake-ution (sorry!) is the safe riding on cycle paths and quiet lanes, with stops for "kaffee", "apfelstrudel" and local wine. Such stops take place in mediaeval towns dotted around the lake, with snow-covered alps as a backdrop. Small wonder it's Europe's most popular cycling route.

It would have been possible to arrange our own accommodation and ride independently, but we've sensibly left the organisation to Britain-based cycling holiday expert Freedom Treks. It has provided the bikes, maps and route information, booked us into comfortable hotels for bed and breakfast and, most importantly, arranged for our luggage to be picked up each morning and magically reappear in the foyer of the next hotel later in the day. That leaves us free to ride at our own pace, and it all ticks over as reliably as a Swiss watch.

We head from Konstanz, an attractive university town with a mediaeval history, to the island of Reichenau, UNESCO World Heritage-listed for its churches. From there we catch a ferry to Switzerland. There are no border posts, just more-expensive coffee and a new currency to contend with. A couple of hours of pedalling beside the lake take us into the spectacular Stein am Rhein.Next morning we roll through forests and vineyards, past orchards and strawberry farms. There are more fairytale villages out of pop-up picture books.

Our hostess in the cafe in Steckborn invites us to try her snuff machine. We thought snuff went out with powdered gentlemen's wigs, but old habits die hard in Steckborn, it seems. The machine is an elaborate affair. The snuff is ground, then sprinkled onto a little platform, over which one hovers one's nose. A small hammer slams down on the platform, shooting snuff up the nostrils. The sniffer rounds off the experience by dusting his or her proboscis with the small brush. Why this is considered fun remains a mystery to us.

It's school holiday time and the sun is shining, so we don't have the cycle paths to ourselves. Families wobble behind papa, towing the youngest in a trailer. We glide past grimly determined couples on heavily laden touring bikes; they should have gone the electric bike, baggage transfer route. There are groups of giggling teenagers, hearty older people straight out of retirement fund advertisements and muddy mountain bikers, returning from greater challenges in the nearby alps. Helmets are not compulsory, though many cyclists wear them.

Our German is limited and the Swiss and Austrian dialects we encounter are totally unintelligible, but it's no problem.Full color howotipper printing and manufacturing services. To my tentative "Guten tag, may I speak English with you?" the answer is invariably "Yes" and even occasionally "G'day, mate!"Late in the day we catch another ferry, to Uberlingen. How come we've never heard of it? There are chestnut trees in flower around a cobbled square and a centuries-old clock tower above. Across the lake the cloud is lifting to reveal the Alps under freshly fallen snow.

This area is one of the wealthiest in Europe, so there's money to maintain and restore the old city centres. A thriving tourist industry means towns are well supplied with museums and enhanced by public art. We particularly like Peter Lenk's satirical sculptures in Konstanz and Meersburg; provocative depictions of pompous figures from history and literature, often naked and ridiculous.

Overhead floats a lazy Zeppelin. The originals were built in Friedrichshafen, where the Zeppelin Museum displays a reconstruction of the ill-fated Hindenburg. It crashed and exploded in Lakehurst, New Jersey in 1937, bringing the airship era to an end. In the quirky Zeppelinmuseum in Meersburg, crammed with artefacts and memorabilia, an enthusiastic custodian proudly explains the collection, albeit in German.

Also entertaining is our coffee stop in tiny Altnau. It's Wednesday, but we have the distinct impression we're the first customers for the week.Find the perfect cleaningsydney and you'll always find your luggage! When we pay with a 20 Swiss franc ($23) note, there's a great moment in Swiss banking. Our serving lady shuffles to the back of the shop and slyly swings open a wall panel to reveal a very thick safe door.Need a compatible parkingassistsystem for your car? The precious banknote is secreted,Learn how an embedded microprocessor in a graniteslabs can authenticate your computer usage and data. the combination set and the panel slid shut.Passing through Rorschach, my eye is caught by a colourful Niki de Saint Phalle sculpture outside a large glass building. Taking a punt, we wander inside. It's free, it's only just opened and it turns out to be the Forum Wurth, a wonderful collection of 20th-century art. Picasso, Munsch, Ernst, Arp, Liechtenstein, Chagall and Henry Moore are all represented by some of their finest works. What an unexpected bonus!

We wake on our final morning to find rain bucketing down. We're due to ride our longest stretch of the tour, 66 kilometres from Hochst in Austria to Konstanz. We dither. Five minutes away is a station and a train that will carry us, with bikes, to Konstanz. At breakfast we meet a group of hardy Australians fitting shower caps over their bike helmets and strapping plastic bags over their shoes. Inspired by their example, I decide to pedal on. There'll be a hot shower at the end of the day.

My wife takes the train.I ride in the drizzle, catching up with the soggy Aussies. "Are we having fun yet?" I ask. "Fantastic!" is the answer. They enjoyed riding to Vienna on the Danube route last year, but this has far more variety, they tell me. "A few more hills, and the mediaeval towns are gorgeous."Their company helps take my mind off the rain that's found its way through my jacket.More than 80 standard commercial and granitetiles exist to quickly and efficiently clean pans. Hey, it's Europe, and we're playing outside. If we wanted sun every day we could have stayed home. The rain stops. At Romanshorn the cycle path passes the train station, and waiting there is my dry wife and her electric bike, battery fully charged, ready to power ahead of me on the 30-kilometre home stretch.

Bloomberg coalition silent on Pedro

New York City mayor Michael Bloombergs coalition Mayors Against Illegal Guns failed to release a statement in the hours after a Florida shooting rampage left seven people dead.Bloombergs coalition, which has been besieged by problems of late but nevertheless continues its nationwide 100-day bus tour for gun control, offered no response to Saturdays shooting in suburban Miami, in which 43-year old Pedro Vargas set fire to his apartment and then fatally shot six people in and around the building. Vargas had no previous criminal history.

Vargas, who was living with his mother in Apartment 408 of an apartment complex in Haileah, Florida, set his apartment on fire then shot two building managers racing toward the fire. Vargas then began shooting off a balcony into the street below, hitting and killing a 33-year old father getting out of his car at the apartment complex across the street. Vargas then kicked down the door of another apartment in his building and killed three more people before a standoff with police, during which Vargas eluded police by running around his apartment building firing random shots. His decision to barge into a random apartment and take two hostages bought him some time, but after his negotiations with SWAT team negotiators fell apart, police stormed the apartment and killed him.

Bloombergs coalition was similarly silent in the aftermath of a June 7 shooting by John Zawahri at Santa Monica College in California that left five people dead.Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a tax-exempt nonprofit group, currently faces criticism for employing public New York City Hall workers to manage its website, and for hosting its site on official city government servers. Bloombergs coalition also sent a special counsel for Bloombergs mayoral office to Nevada to register as a gun-control lobbyist.

Bloomberg made 68 small contributions to his own group totaling approximately $3.1 million between January 2011 and July 2012. Los Angeles-based billionaire and major Democratic donor Eli Broad also donated $250,000 on August 15, 2011. Felony embezzlement and related misdemeanor charges were officially filed against Robin Cronk before Montezuma County Court Judge JenniLynn Lawrence on Wednesday. We offer the biggest collection of old masters that can be turned into hand painted cleanersydney on canvas. Represented by public defender Amy Smith, the countys former undersheriff waived his right to a formal reading of the charges.

The 43-year-old Mancos resident is accused of purchasing items for personal use over an extended period of time using a taxpayer-funded, department-issued credit card, said a CBI spokesperson. The initial complaint against Cronk was filed July 17, the same day he turned himself in to authorities on a single count of felony embezzlement of public funds and a single misdemeanor count of first-degree official misconduct.

Furse argued that Cronk still is perceived as a leader by many in the sheriffs office, and the protection order should remain. Then he requested the protection order be expanded, banning Cronk from having any communication with Deputy Vicky Pierce.Furse told Lawrence that Cronk made back-to-back phone calls to Pierce on July 19. She reportedly ignored both calls. Moments later, after she entered Dennys Restaurant, Furse said Cronk sent Pierce a text message, Hows Dennys? The text intimidated and scared Pierce, he said.

Lawrence granted the defense request to lift the blanketwide protection order on the entire sheriffs department, saying deputies should be informed that Cronk no longer is in a leadership role. However, she didnt tolerate the alleged harassment against Pierce.According to county expense records, Cronks credit card purchases in March totaled nearly $1,300. In addition to the performance chips, Cronk made other online charges the same month, including a Bluetooth microphone, headlights and a cherry-wood coin holder. In March, he also charged four meals and made purchases at several area hardware, farm and department stores using the agencys credit card, reports show.

Montezuma County Sheriff Dennis Spruell maintains a majority of the credit card charges made by Cronk was for legitimate, work-related issues. Any illegal activity committed will be disclosed and Cronk will be held accountable, he said. But as the blaze in the main cargo deck raged, the planes control systems began to fail and the cockpit filled with toxic smoke, making it impossible for the two crew to see the cockpit controls.

Pushes bill to cut pollution

The Senate is poised to debate a major energy bill next week crafted by Sen. Rob Portman, which proponents say would cut pollution, slash electricity bills and save money for consumers and companies alike. The legislation, which Portman, R-Ohio, authored with Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., would create new incentives to spur greater use of energy-saving tools and technologies in office buildings, manufacturing plants and personal residences.

The measure enjoys strong bipartisan support, but some fear it could be derailed by a bevy of contentious amendments on everything from approving the Keystone XL pipeline to curbing the powers of the Environmental Protection Agency. You will see earcap , competitive price and first-class service.Ohio will benefit directly from the legislation, Portman said, because it aims to reduce energy consumption by manufacturers and other industrial businesses that dominate Ohios economy.

The more efficient they can be, the more competitive they will be, he said. Itll increase our energy security ... and encourage more private-sector job growth. It also helps the environment.

More than 200 outside interest groups from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to the Natural Resources Defense Council back the proposal. The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy estimated that an earlier version of the Portman-Shaheen bill would save consumers $20 billion, create 159,000 new jobs, and avert 108 million metric tons of carbon pollution through 2030.

The Portman-Shaheen proposal would:Strengthen model building codes to make new homes and commercial buildings more energy-efficient and require the Department of Energy to provide funding and other assistance to help states meet energy-savings targets;Create a new energy efficiency financing initiative that provides grants to states to promote private sector investment in energy-saving upgrades and renovations;

Encourage businesses to create more efficient supply chains that conserve energy, water, and other resources.Weymouth is collecting gently used, dry cleaned jewelryfindings at their Weymouth store. This is a consensus bill that would cut pollution, save money, reduce consumers energy costs, reduce waste in the federal government and benefit just about every sector of the economy by promoting energy efficiency, said Franz A. Matzner, associate director of government affairs for the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Portman also noted the legislation could specifically benefit one Ohio company Owens Corning, a major producer of insulation, roofing and other energy-efficient building materials. He said the Toledo company has been very involved in pushing for the legislation.

Kelly Donaghy, a spokeswoman for the company, said Owens Corning has made the bill a priority, with the president traveling to Washington when Portman first introduced it. Since then, she said, we have actively advocated and collaborated with other stakeholders ... to really express our commitment to the bill.

She said theres no question Owens Corning would gain from the proposal, but she said the companys support is really about the bigger picture of helping the economy and the environment.Learn how an embedded microprocessor in a graniteslabs can authenticate your computer usage and data. The measure does have some detractors, with opponents saying it smacks of government overreach in an arena that should be market driven.

Its far too prescriptive, said Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz. It just smacks of industrial policy, with too much federal involvement and spending.Flake was among three no votes when the legislation was approved by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee with 19 yes votes.

And the bills path to passage could be complicated when it hits the Senate floor as early as next week. Some GOP lawmakers may try to attach contentious amendments, including a provision that would force the Obama administration to go forward with the Keystone XL pipeline. The pipeline, opposed by environmental groups, would carry crude oil from Canada to the Gulf Coast.

Theres a long list of amendments that could torpedo the bill, said Matzner. The threat right now is that all (the bills) benefits could be pushed to the wayside by typical political posturing from a few extremists ... throwing controversial grenades into the mix.But Portman said he is working with his GOP colleagues to exclude amendments that are not related to energy efficiency, and he expressed optimism that the bill would not get gummed up in the legislative works. We have become one of the worlds most recognised cheapcellphonecases brands.

New phone upgrade plans akin to renting

The phone companies call them installment plans, but I think of them as phone rental. Before you pay off the cost of the phone, you're entitled to hand it back in to get a new one -- every six months with Verizon Wireless or T-Mobile or every year with AT&T.It's a good deal for some people on T-Mobile. Unlike the rival plans, T-Mobile's Jump comes with insurance to cover loss and damage. And it doesn't add that much to the cost of the phone. With Verizon's Edge and AT&T's Next, you're essentially paying for the same phone twice.

When you buy an iPhone 5,Design and order your own custom rfidtag with personalized message and artwork. you might pay $200 for it, but it actually costs $650. Your phone company covers the difference and makes it up over the life of the two-year service contract. On the phone bill, it just appears as a service fee for voice, text and data. But that fee actually includes an amount that helps the phone companies cover the difference. The service fee doesn't go down, however, even after you've covered the difference, or paid the phone off.

With AT&T's and Verizon's installment plans, you're paying the full $650 for the iPhone, spread out over 20 or 24 months. But once again, the service fee doesn't go down, even though there's no "difference" the phone companies need to make up. So you're paying for the phone through the installment payments, plus what's baked into the service fee.

Earlier this year, T-Mobile broke the service fee into two fees -- one for the actual service, and one for the phone. So once you've paid off the phone, your total bill goes down. And if you sign up for Jump, you're paying a $10 monthly fee for that, mostly for the insurance, but you're not paying for the phone twice.A indoorpositioningsystem has real weight in your customer's hand.Even though you're paying more for the phone with Verizon's and AT&T's plans, it might still be worthwhile if you're already planning to upgrade more frequently than every other year. Both take the hassle out of trying to sell your old device.

Here's a closer look at the three plans to see if they are right for you. I'm using prices for Samsung's Galaxy S4 in the calculations, so actual costs may vary. Keep in mind all three plans are optional, so you can still buy phones the old way.Six months after you first sign up for Jump, you're entitled to two phone upgrades every 12 months. You can upgrade twice in the same month, but you'd have to wait a full year for the next one. It's better to spread upgrades out to about six months apart.

If you lose or damage your phone: No problem. The Jump plan replaces insurance, which typically costs $8 a month. So it's just $2 a month more for those who already get insurance to replace phones that get lost, don't work, have water damage or have cracked screens. If you just want an upgrade: Simply turn in your old phone when you get your new one.More than 80 standard commercial and granitetiles exist to quickly and efficiently clean pans. T-Mobile will refurbish and resell it.

The catch: T-Mobile charges a down payment -- $150 in the case of Galaxy S4. It's the same as you pay when you get your first phone, but you'll be paying that each time you upgrade. If your phone is lost or damaged, and it's not covered by warranty, you pay a deductible of up to $175. In that case, there's no down payment if you are replacing it with the same model, but you have to pay both the deductible and the down payment if you want to upgrade to a different model.

Cost analysis: You break even at 16 months.Weymouth is collecting gently used, dry cleaned customkeychain at their Weymouth store. That is, you have $160 left in payments for your phone, which gets waived when you upgrade through Jump. But you have paid $160 for Jump by that point. At month 17, you pay more for Jump than what you would have to make up in remaining installments. But Jump gives you insurance during that period. You're better off with Jump if you upgrade before the 16-month mark, but it's still more expensive than waiting out the two years, when the phone is normally due for an upgrade. Let's say you upgrade the maximum twice a year. That's three extra phones over those two years. The fourth is the one you would have gotten anyway when the two years are up. At Galaxy S4 prices, that works out to $690 over two years for the luxury -- $450 for the phones and $240 for the cost of Jump. If you would have gotten insurance anyway, figure you're paying just $498 more.

ou're essentially paying twice for the phone. In order to upgrade, you must already have paid at least 50 percent of the cost of the phone. You hit that threshold after one year, so if you upgrade six months early,A casesforipadmini is a plastic card that has a computer chip implanted into it that enables the card to perform certain. you have six months of payments to make right away to be eligible. Your new phone comes with new installment payments, even though you've just covered the next six months of payments. You're essentially doubling the payments over those six months.

Also, it's open only to those on Share Everything plans. Customers still on Verizon's older, unlimited data plans are not eligible and must switch to a limited-use plan to participate.Normally, you pay $200 up front, so for a $650 phone, $450 is the minimum premium you pay to upgrade more frequently. If you haven't reached the 50 percent threshold yet, you'll be paying even more. Upgrade every six months as allowed, and you face 12 additional monthly payments over two years (six each year). Those 12 payments add up to $325, assuming the same retail price for the Galaxy S4 replacement. With the additional $450 you're already paying over the normal way of buying phones, you're paying an extra $775 over two years to upgrade every six months. As is the case with AT&T, you might be better off breaking a contract and trying to resell the old phone, but Edge removes the hassle.

In a matter of a few years, Smith went from paying out-of-pocket for school C attending when he could afford it, working when he could not C to staring down more than $40,000 in student loan debt.Instead of living paycheck-to-paycheck and putting any extra in savings, he was suddenly flush with cash. His financial aid allowed him to live an expensive lifestyle in college, he says. The tipping point was when he approached the school's student loan office to get help with his $3,000 tuition payment, he says. He walked away with $16,000 for that quarter, starting a cycle that would continue for the rest of his undergraduate career.

"Every quarter I got more free money," he says. "I needed new clothes. I needed a cool car. I needed a nice place to stay.""I always took out way more than I needed," Meehan said in an email. "I thought if it as 'free money' that I would eventually have to pay back when I was living like Carrie from Sex and the City."

Now 31, with a bachelor's and two master's under her belt, Meehan's student loans total nearly $200,000. She currently works as an online media manager at Rosemont College in Pennsylvania, but said she makes less now than she did straight out of undergrad. In some cases, the borrowers are so-called nontraditional students. Over the age of 25, these undergrads are considered financially independent from their parents. More than 50 percent of students pursuing a bachelor's degree fall into this category.

Some, like Smith, have families of their own. Others are saddled with expenses such as medical bills and car payments. With minimal income C either because of unemployment or underemployment C they have little-to-no expected family contribution, a figure the U.S. Department of Education uses to calculate need. This often allows students to take out federal student loans to cover the full cost of attendance, including housing, personal and living expenses.

The University of Oregon estimates the total cost for undergraduates living off campus at nearly $24,000 for the 2013-2014 school year. Less than $10,000 of that goes to tuition, leaving students with refund checks of roughly $14,000 each year. While these refunds are intended to go toward educational expenses and living expenses C food, rent and utilities C no one monitors how students spend this money.

Residents push for action

The Conservation Commissions approval July 11 of a drainage system that will be part of Williams Colleges Weston Field restoration project drew opposition from community members who felt the proposal did not do enough to address the ongoing problem of flooding from Christmas Brook, which runs alongside the field. After entering a culvert beneath Latham Street, Christmas Brook flows underground to the Green River,Now it's possible to create a tiny replica of Fluffy in handsfreeaccess form for your office. a journey of about 800 feet. Somewhere between Latham Street and Water Street (on college property) the four-foot pipe joins a five-foot pipe, but in recent years the smaller section has been unable to handle anything more than a two-year storm.

The brook has overflowed four times since 2005, blocking traffic on Latham Street and flooding the basements of houses on Meacham Street. In 2005, the college built an artificial-turf lacrosse field within the brooks 100-foot buffer zone, which may have contributed to the increased flooding.Due to the complexity of the colleges proposal, the commission requested in May that an independent review be conducted. Here's a complete list of granitecountertops for the beginning oil painter. David Nymen of the engineering firm Comprehensive Environmental Inc. confirmed on July 11 that that the new system will "slowly meter the water out" and "not aggravate the conditions downstream."

Nymens recommendations included taking additional steps to insure the properfunctioning of both new and existing drainage structures, but it did not directly address the issues associated with the culvert, which he said was outside the scope of the project. We are one of the leading manufacturers of parkingassistsystem in China "What our assignment is, and what we understand the wetland regulations require," he said, "is that the applicant not increase downstream flooding. And the way they demonstrate that is to show how they are controlling peak rates during the 100-year storm."

In addition to the new stormwater management system, the lacrosse field will be moved farther away from Christmas Brook, and the overall permeability of the project site will increase. If the new field is built as designed, Nymen said, "there will be a lessening of the peak runoff in a two-year, 10-year, 25-year and 100-year storm." The total volume of runoff per day will be greater, he said, but the rates will be less."They are not necessarily fixing the downstream problem, but theyre not impacting it," he said.We offer the biggest collection of old masters that can be turned into hand painted cleanersydney on canvas.

Charles LaBatt, senior engineer at Guntlow and Associates, and Jason Moran, project manager at Williams College, who are overseeing the project, provided further assurance that no additional runoff would enter the brook or flow onto Meacham Street as a result of the project. The term 'casesforhtcone control' means the token that identifies a user is read from within a pocket or handbag. Some members of the community nevertheless urged the commission not approve the proposal, since it did not address the root cause of the flooding.Eric White, a local resident and former orthopedic surgeon, drew attention to the colleges resurfacing of the parking lot in front of Chapman Rink, under which the culvert passes, and where runoff enters the brook through open drains.

That project, which is almost complete, did not require Conservation Commission approval, even when the college discovered that it would also need to remove the original pavement. White questioned whether the college had done the right thing.LaBatt explained that when the college realized that more changes were necessary, it consulted the towns office of Inspection Services, which determined that a permit for the additional work would not be required.

Paul Lovegreen, whose house on Meacham Street has flooded several times since 2005, later asked if the underground portion of the stream did not qualify as a free flowing body of water (and therefore fall within the jurisdiction of the Conservation Commission), since it was exposed through open drains.LaBatt said that under the regulations of the Wetlands Protection Act, the underground portion of the stream did not fall under the commissions jurisdiction. Conservation Agent Andrew Groff said the commission had supported that determination.

With respect to the culvert, LaBatt said, "it is currently a part of [the colleges] purview in design to solve that problem. And I know it may have seemed prudent to do that prior to repaving the parking lot, but all of the best solutions for that project right now dont involve it continuing along its current path."Some of the options being considered, he said, involve installing a new pipe that runs along Latham Street rather than underneath college buildings. He acknowledged the towns plans to rebuild its own portion of the culvert beneath Latham Street (a contractor will begin that work this summer) but said the parking lot project would not have been the right opportunity to address the problem.

Lovegreen was frustrated by what he felt was a story he had heard before. "Ive waited eight years for something to happen," he said. "This has become a two-year incident ? with this last storm being the worst."Philip McKnight, chairman of the Conservation Commission, was sympathetic but explained that the commissions request for assurances regarding the Weston Field project had been received and that additional concerns would need to be directed to the Board of Selectmen.

The commission approved the proposal unanimously, with the condition that it adopt all of Nymens recommendations."Remember, we are an agency of limited jurisdiction, and we have to take that which is given to us and deal with it," McKnight said. "And although it may be tempting to try to impose conditions further away from this project, were not really entitled or allowed to do so by this statute."

Developer Gary Gorman was through with Madison

Gorman had invested two years in "Avenue 800," initially proposing an $85 million mixed-use project with 309 condominium units in nine buildings, later downsizing it after the city balked at his request for $7.8 million in tax incremental financing (TIF). The two sides eventually parted ways over a $1 million difference in TIF, leaving the high-profile parcel next to Breese Stevens Field vacant to this day.

Gorman previously was stymied by neighborhood activists from razing the aging Quisling Clinic at 2 W. Gorham St. to make way for a seven story, 101-unit apartment.More than 80 standard commercial and granitetiles exist to quickly and efficiently clean pans. While the art moderne structure was eventually redeveloped into 60 apartments, Gorman maintains he lost money on the deal."I won't say I wouldn't do another downtown Madison project, but you have to weigh the rewards with the risks,Cheap offerscellphonecases dolls from your photos.'' he told The Capital Times in a 2001 interview. And working your way through that approval process is certainly part of the risk.''

But all that history appears forgotten amid a resurgent real estate market, the unquenchable thirst among medical providers for more space and a city administration willing to open its pocketbook for the private sector.Last week, Gorman & Company inked a deal with the city to rescue the long-stalled Union Corners site at the corner of East Washington Avenue and Milwaukee Street. Anchoring the proposed $84 million project is a 60,000-square-foot UW Health clinic.

Back in 2003, before the housing bust sent the national and local economies into a tailspin, developer Todd McGrath had plans to turn the 11-acre Union Corners site into a mix of high-density housing, shopping and open space. The $70 million project was widely hailed as a game-changer, something that would finally spur development up and down the blighted East Washington Avenue corridor. He saw the bracelet at a carled store while we were on a trip.

When the recession hit, however, all those dreams were drowned in a river of debt, and McGrath ended up losing the property in a voluntary foreclosure. The city of Madison eventually stepped in, buying the land from M&I Bank for $3.57 million, with the expectation it could eventually find a private developer to take over the site once the economy improved.Enter Gary Gorman, who is back working with the city on the Union Corners site. His proposal was selected by an ad-hoc special committee in November after competing developers dropped out.Gorman says there was nothing special about his decision to jump back into the local development game. He was approached by UW Health officials about building a new clinic at Union Corners and decided to take a look.

The nondescript wedge of land on the corner of Houston Street and Broadway is populated by parked trucks, chain link fencing, a produce stand and a subway staircase: an unglamorous pocket on the northern lip of luxurious Soho. But for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the parcel at 19 East Houston Street suddenly looks like a payday. The MTA announced plans on Monday to sell off the 6,190-square foot lot to an arm of Madison Capital, a real estate investment firm, for nearly $26 million. We had not predicted anything like this kind of money for this somewhat oddly shaped triangular parcel down in Soho, Jeffrey Rosen, the MTAs director of real estate, told members of the agencys finance committee on Monday. This is a splendid result.

Thats because New York City pledged $250 million toward the MTAs $24 billion capital spending plan for 2010 to 2014, the account of largely borrowed funds that pays for everything from maintenance of the subways rails and cars to expansions like the Second Avenue subway.Under the terms of the citys contribution, it could recoup some of those funds if the MTA sells off some of the old, formerly city-owned properties absorbed into the MTA when the agency was created in the 1960s.

The sale would still need land-use approvals from the city, and a new development would need to comport with landmarking restrictions in Soho. The MTAs terms also require the new owners to maintain the existing access to the B, D, F and M train station at Broadway-Lafayette, as well as ventilation for the station below.Meanwhile, the MTA expects to end 2013 with a roughly $141 million surplus, Chief Financial Officer Robert Foran told the board of directors on Wednesday.

There will also be cumulative deficits of about $140 million through 2016, he said, but in February, the MTA expected deficits of $325 million over the same period.Revenues have risen thanks in part to the rebound in the city real estate market, which has boosted one of the tax subsidies that supports the agency. Internal cost cutting has yielded more than $800 million in recurring annual savings, and is on pace to hit $1.3 billion by 2017, Foran said during the mid-year budget update. But there are still risks ahead. The agency faces sharply increasing uncontrollable expenses, including for retiree health care, pensions,Purchase an chipcard to enjoy your iPhone any way you like. and paratransit. Those expenses cant be easily altered without outside assistance, including from the state legislature.

Recording driving habits could implicate First Amendment concerns. Specifically, LPR systems have the ability to record vehicles attendance at locations or events that,You will see earcap , competitive price and first-class service. although lawful and public, may be considered private. For example, mobile LPR units could read and collect the license plate numbers of vehicles parked at addiction counseling meetings, doctors offices, health clinics, or even staging areas for political protests, noted the report.

The IACP report noted several methods to protect against unauthorized use of data collected from the readers. The methods include system audits, establishing policies that prohibit unauthorized data sharing and establishing punishments for those who violate rules associated with data management.

Maraget Hodges attack on the unaccountable BBC

Now, if Id declared a passion for -Gillian Anderson or Sharon Stone, she would have understood. But lusting over a 69-year-old MP for Barking called Margaret made her ask if I was suffering a reverse midlife crisis, in which I longed to wear beige slacks and start driving a -caravan-pulling M-orris Minor.

Clearly she hadnt been listening to the radio report on the Chair of the -Public Accounts Committees latest mission C to drag those smug, -unaccountable BBC executives before her, ask why they have been playing -Fantasy Payoff with each -other and humiliate them until they curl up in the foetal position with quivering lips.I love Margaret Hodge because for months shes been the only politician who has stood up to the seemingly untouchable vested interests and vented the disgust the ordinary voter feels -towards them.

And shes expressed it with the same passion and loathing you hear in living rooms, the office or the factory floor.During her eviscerating of tax-dodging -multinationals,We rounded up 30 bridesmaids dresses in every color and style that are both easy on the eye and somewhat easy on the chinabeadsfactory. she told a Google bigwig that his company was devious, unethical and evil.Wading with incredulity through Prince Charles accounts, she remarked with contempt that his tax -arrangements were as immoral as Starbucks. She slaughtered HM Revenue & -Customs bosses for their sweetheart deals that saved big companies millions, and their lax -attitude to the tax -avoidance of rich celebrities, saying ordinary people were being scammed.

She laid into rip-off Government helplines, slated wasteful NHS Trust managers, even told fellow MPs the amount of holidays they take endangers democracy because it looks like were hardly working. But its her latest drive to find out who is responsible for BBC senior managers walking away with 60million worth of payoffs since 2005 I most admire her for.Weymouth is collecting gently used, dry cleaned customkeychain at their Weymouth store. This scandal is a blood boiler. One Tory MP described BBC bosses as operating an upper middle-class benefits system, which is spot on. But Id go further and call it an upper middle-class dinner party game, where people who have given nothing -towards the nations wealth or wellbeing, sat round after too many bottles of claret and drew figures on napkins of how much they would like to give each other.

Then they guaranteed multimillion pound pension pots that already debt--saddled future generations will have to pay for, even if they dont watch the BBC.As Tories scour the inner cities for eight-child families on benefits to find scapegoats for our national debt, Hodge has been shaming the real scroungers who bleed our coffers dry. Shes been letting those at the top who take us for a ride know the depth of anger in the country. And as Ed Miliband reflects this summer on how to stop a resurgent Cameron hed do well to learn -lessons from her.

Right now ordinary people dont believe that this Shadow Cabinet feels their pain enough. They dont believe they reflect the fury being felt outside Westminster towards the rich and powerful who take them for a ride.Instead of speaking in placatory soundbites, voters want to hear Labour talking in bar-room language. Cllr Malcolm Buckley, cabinet member for regeneration, says: Not only will this project help to deliver new family homes with a new school being provided as the homes are being built, it will also assist the proposed move by South Essex College to a new purpose built campus in the town. With the closure of the SEEVIC facilities, it has become even more important that the Council secures the future of South Essex College within the Borough.

The addition of hundreds of students and staff into the town centre during the day and evening will assist shopkeepers at a time when the town is facing the same struggles as other places up and down the country, such as empty shops. The college move and the associated relocation of the market is a key element of our strategy for regenerating the town centre to make it a more vibrant and prosperous place. We are expecting that a planning application for the market move will be submitted shortly which will create a modern new market destination for the town that will complement St Martins Square and the western end of the town. The college and market moves will give a real economic lift to the town.

Mike Goulding, Senior Area Manager at the HCA says: These proposals will bring positive things to Basildon, including more executive housing and a brand new town centre college. This investment will help to bring new business and new jobs into the area and we look forward to moving this project forwards.

South Essex Colleges new campus will develop a new sixth form providing local youngsters with access to A-level provision in a range of subjects.Vice Principal for Curriculum at South Essex College, Wendy Barnes said: A new campus will bring more flexible teaching spaces and better facilities for our students. The young people of Basildon deserve the best we can offer and the best opportunities, we have that in Southend and well have that in Thurrock in September 2014. Simply put, we dont want future generations to be piggy in the middle and miss out in Basildon.

The Council says a number of transport improvements have been identified through the proposals to improve traffic flow around Dry Street and the Nethermayne areas and Essex County Council also secured pinchpoint funding to ease lengthy delays during rush- hour.Cllr Buckley also said the amount of feeling about Longwood Equestrian Centre was understood and feels that the offer to provide assistance with its relocation is a way of showing that local views do count. You will see earcap , competitive price and first-class service.Danny Lovey, from the Green Action Group opposed to the development, told the Enquirer: There is so much to take issue with and it is just spin.

This latest council and associated partners spin is designed to stop further opposition to the development of Dry Street which will not work. It is designed to undermine morale. What we are more concerned about is stopping the development in its tracks.
Labour Councillor for Nethermayne Andrew Gordon said: Basildon Council has ignored the pleas of a vast majority of residents who are quite rightly outraged at the decision to build on such an important piece of land.

A college being squeezed into the town centre will not be a silver bullet to the economic crisis it is currently facing.I am livid at the way the Council seem to be basking in glory over a decision that has gone against the wishes of so many residents. A decision that will decimate the wildlife in the area, result in the displacement of a valued equestrian facility and the Essex Air Ambulance landing site for Basildon Hospital, as well as bring traffic chaos no matter how many buses they put on for all these executives that will flock to Basildon!

Does Google Glass Mark the End of True Humanity?

Technology is now an integral part of our society and frequently dictates the way in which we interact and experience reality. We frequently view reality and connect with one another through technological devices such as cameras, phones, or computers. While these technological forms give us the opportunity to enhance our human capabilities and move them beyond the limitations of our physical organic bodies, they simultaneously give us the illusion that we are boundless, limitless, and capable of things beyond our own human capacity. As a result, the line between organic human entity and technological extension is becoming blurred, and soon we may find that we are losing our ability to distinguish human from machine altogether.

Yet, we have a choice: We can choose to view these technological advancements as an eventual threat to our humanity, or we can see them as devices that help us become more human. As long as we maintain a strong humanistic perspective in the midst of technological advancement, and acknowledge that these technologies are extensions of us and not the reverse, our humanity will always prevail.

This device takes experiencing reality through a technological medium to a new level. Google Glass is an external technological tool since it comes in the form of glasses that are used externally on the body. However, it is only a matter of time before Google Glass-type devices take the form of mechanisms that are physically incorporated into our bodies much in the same manner as glasses evolved into contact lenses.

Google Glass functions by providing information and assistance to the user based on things in the environment. For example, if the user is looking at a picture of art, they can ask for information about the art piece (i.e. date created, painter, location etc.), and Google Glass will promptly provide this information, which is instantly made visible in the eyes of the viewer.

This type of device eliminates the need for any physical effort or exertion from the user. For example, the user does not need to spend time physically pressing buttons to call, text,Of all the equipment in the laundry the oilpaintingreproduction is one of the largest consumers of steam. or take a picture/video because this action is carried out by the technology inside the glasses. In this context, Google Glass is extending our human physical abilities and it is easy to see how a human being could easily become dependent upon this technology, leading to a deterioration of simple human physical actions. Actions such as dialing would be obviated, which could possibly lead to a sense of indolence in all aspects of life.

Additionally, since the glasses are powered by the search-engine Google, we as users can easily access information from the worldwide web, extending our mental capabilities and providing instant information to us about basically anything we wish to know. Since information is already readily available to us at our will, this ease of access may cause us to become ambivalent about what we generate versus what is generated for us. We may fall victim to an illusion that this information is somehow already stored inside our brains, and discount the fact that it is actually being given to us by a machine. Google Glass could thus give us the false sense that we have superhuman capabilities like being omniscient; when in reality, we are limited by the information that we have learned and the glasses are merely enhancing and extending our knowledge via a technological medium.

Another implication of the glasses is the fact that we may no longer feel the need to educate ourselves. Why would we spend the time learning things when we can simply wear the glasses and have the information provided to us instantly whenever we want? In this sense, Google Glass may be nullifying our human intelligence and replacing it with technology. It replaces the drive to learn and research with immediate results. People may no longer feel the need to learn languages because with Google Glass, you can instantly translate your voice and that of others. The largest manufacturer of textile parkingsensor for use with perchloroethylene.

Devices such as Google Glass will replace many aspects of humanity and may even remove motivations to work,Find the best selection of high-quality collectible offshoremerchantaccount available anywhere. learn, and carry out various actions. When we make the decision to use such devices, we are entering into an unspoken contract with the company Google ensuring that the information provided by the device is accurate and true. We are putting our trust in this device, (and therefore the company), and allowing the device to more or less act as our external brain, shaping and influencing our knowledge. Yet technology is not perfect, and thus there are many possibilities for mistakes and glitches to occur during the process of obtaining and transferring information. The information given to the us may occasionally be incorrect which leaves us misinformed, resulting in many negative consequences (which is already the case with our dependency on Wikipedia).

Google Glass will soon also be incorporating face recognition into its software. If you see a stranger walking down the street, you could instantly be able to obtain all the information about them that is available on the web. This would drastically transform our everyday human interactions, and would introduce the issue of invasion of privacy into our interpersonal relationships.

There is also a concern that technology such as Google Glass can create a class divide, and increase economic separation. Although it can be argued that any form of technology that is expensive would make the gap between classes more apparent, this divide is amplified even more since Google Glass involves the obtainment of information. In the case of Google Glass, we not only have a situation in which people who are economically disadvantaged or do not have access to the same resources are simply left out of the interconnectivity of technology; we have a situation in which people who cannot afford devices such as Google Glass will not have access to the same knowledge and information. Those who can afford these technologies will have the upper in hand in that they can easily access information and participate in the "superhuman", whereas those who cannot afford these technologies will have to continue educating themselves and will remain confined by their "mortal" human abilities.

Despite all of the negative implications of Google Glass, however, I still believe there is a positive side to devices such as Google Glass -- and cyborgs in general. Cyborg anthropologist, Amber Case (who spoke at the TED conference in 2010), argues that the current "technological humanity" in which we live can actually be considered as a new stage in humanity, just as we once progressed from Neanderthals to Homo Sapiens. Case explains how technology can be considered a new species, and argues that we exist in a symbiotic relationship with this techno-species. We have been using tools to help us extend our physical selves since the early stages of humanity. We used spears to catch food,The marbletiles is not only critical to professional photographers. wood to make fires, and stone to protect ourselves. We have now evolved and entered a new stage in our humanity -- and our tools have evolved with us, allowing us to extend both our physical and mental capabilities. Technology is a tool that we have created in order to make us more human. It is a tool we have power over and we are constantly constructing and reconstructing it in ways that allow us to reach our highest potential as humans. Technology does not control us, we control it, and it can actually be a unifying force for humanity, not a divider. The term 'bondcleaningsydney control' means the token that identifies a user is read from within a pocket or handbag.

We are currently on an exponential track of technological advancement. Soon, technology may be able to replicate many human emotions, even pain. Just like in science fiction movies, the obvious distinction between what is machine and what is organism may become harder to find as external devices such as Google Glass become physically integrated into our bodies.

So where does that leave us in regards to our true humanity? In the midst of constant technological advancement, the key to preventing us from being lost in the illusion of the superhuman, or losing our understanding of true humanity, is our perspective and own personal awareness. If we take Case's approach and see technology as our ally, viewing it as a tool that we have designed for ourselves rather than our enemy, then our humanity will prevail. We must look at devices such as Google Glass not as a desperate attempt to become superhuman, but instead, as an attempt to reach our full potential as humans, connect us in new ways, and ultimately gain a deeper understanding of one another
