According to the Parking Rules and Regulations outlined on UTA’s
website, it is a privilege to drive and park on campus. Included in the
definition of “privilege” is the word “immunity.” I have come to realize
recently students like myself are not immune to those infamous little
white envelopes containing parking tickets found on our windshields.A
wide range of polished tiles for your tile flooring and walls.
Within
the past two weeks, I have received four parking tickets, each $50.
While I am awareManufactures flexible plastic and synthetic rubber hose
tubing, that I’m in the wrong for parking on campus without a valid
permit, the university should take into consideration the amount of
tickets given within a short period of time, and how expensive that can
be for a student.
Following each ticket I received, I
started what might as well be the “Parking Ticket Chronicles” on my
Twitter feed, which spurred replies from students explaining their
ticket encounters, such as having a parking permit on the wrong side of
the vehicle, parking in the wrong lot or parking in a handicapped space.
Parking Rules and Regulations Section VII states students can
appeal their citation if they have “ample justification or mitigating
circumstances. The TagMaster Long Range hands free access
System is truly built for any parking facility.” Below that, it lists
reasons that may be invalid for appealing a citation. Among them is
“referring to the rules as ridiculous.” Clearly this means students have
tried using that excuse in the past. While I don’t agree it’s a
legitimate argument, I do agree that some of the rules are ridiculous.
One
is following a warning citation, “a fine of $20 will be assessed for
each university citation for violators improperly displaying the parking
permit.” According to UT-Austin’s parking rules, students improperly
displaying their permit are given three warning citations in an academic
year before they are charged only $15.
I guess because they have almost double our enrollment, they can afford to have lower ticket prices, right?
Do
you think it’s fair that students should have to pay $20 for having
their $130 sticker on the wrong side of the car, regardless if it’s
outlined in the rules or not?
When I came across a police
officer on campus, he said the only reason permits are to be on the
passenger side of the vehicle was for uniformity. The stickers are not
to be on the driver’s side as they would clutter the windshield when
added with registration and inspection stickers.
Also, “A fine
of $20 will be assessed for each university citation for violators
improperly parked, even though they have a properly displayed permit.”
In
addition, I’ve received several dings to the side of my car, which is
usually caused by people who’ve parked too close to or over the
designated parking lines.
As outlined in parking regulations, if
cars are not within the boundaries of the parking space, they should
also receive a parking citation for $20.
Of all the citations
UTA Police hand out, I wonder how many are parked correctly in the space
provided. Parking etiquette is one of my pet peeves, and I will back in
and out of a parking space as many times as it takes in order for me to
park correctly. We mainly supply professional craftspeople with crys talbeads wholesale shamballa Bracele ,
While neither of these were the cause of my tickets, I feel that they would fall under the “ridiculous” category.
UT-Austin
charges $35 for parking without an authorized valid permit, which is
the same thing I got a $50 ticket for. Why are the prices different?
Both schools are in the UT System.
According to assistant police
chief Rick Gomez, revenue generated from permits and tickets goes into
an account that helps pay for parking garage operations, maintenance of
parking lots and/or garages, construction of new lots as well as
salaries for security guards, parking services and transportation
services.
The College Park District parking garages are a story in themselves.
Numerous articles published in The Shorthorn have analyzed the amount of parking spaces in the garage. However,We specialize in howo concrete mixer,
only certain floors are allocated for student parking. I can’t explain
how frustrating it is to have to drive up two floors of empty spaces
only to circle the floors above looking for parking.
