A family ski lesson

At the age of 21, a girlfriend and I ventured to the Victorian alps. These personalzied promotional bestchipcard comes with free shipping. After a two-hour lesson, we dared each other to race down the slope. She carved it up all right - her forehead, that is - after falling straight onto her ski tip.''Humans weren't meant to strap sticks to their feet and slide down mountains,'' she proclaimed in the pub, five stitches and 15 shots of schnapps later.

Despite this, I bravely, recklessly, decided to take my kids on their first ski trip.Shop for the largest selection of windturbine at everyday low prices. It began badly, with whingeing about how it was too cold/boring/painful as I squeezed their sausage-like limbs into the rented clothing that cost an arm and two legs.

Then I got pissed off when Grace went off-piste: unable to stop, she simply slid away.Well, as the song says, what a difference a day makes. We woke the next morning to glorious blue sky, fluttering snowflakes, and a smiling snowman outside our window.

On our second lesson, the instructor took us down an intermediate run, the kids squealing with terror then delight. Hubby was squealing for another reason, having misjudged a mogul and bruised his bum.Fellow snowboarders later shared their secret - padding for the patootie. Impact shorts are like the love child of lycra cycling pants and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.

Once he realised he hadn't ''broken a bone in his buttocks'', as was first feared, we started enjoying ourselves. We became border collies, ''herding'' the kids by skiing around them so they weren't mowed down. Alternatively, you can get free lessons on your mobile phone via the Ski School app. Professional instructor Darren Turner gives cool tips, like dragging your pole along to form a circuitous path which your kids can follow. Long time resident of Murrumbateman, Jack Price has become almost famous after a photograph of he and former first bloke Tim Mathieson, partner of then Prime Minister Julia Gillard was published in many well known newspapers. The occasion was a visit to the local Menshed by Mr. Mathieson as a patron of Mensheds along with a retinue of journalists and photographers and the photograph featured an almost completed rocking horse and the two men.

Jack, a former joiner with his own business in Narrabeen, retired to Murrumbateman in 1992 for a quiet life. He brought with him many of his tools of trade and set up a small workshop for his own use. Before long he became RFS fire captain in Murrumbateman, a position he willingly held for 15 years then he found he had time on his hands. Encouraged by a daughter who was creating craft items needing frames,A buymosaic is a plastic card that has a computer chip implanted into it that enables the card to perform certain. he began framing but then soon branched out into his own type of craft, making small three dimensional timber wall hangings. From there he began to visit markets and effortlessly sold all he could make which encouraged him to experiment and diversify. On one of these visits he chatted with the maker of a rocking horse that he had admired. From that inquiry he was directed to patterns for rocking horses and decided to take up the challenge to make his own.

Modestly Jack describes how he had to first draw the components of the horse, source the suitable timber and begin by hand carving the head. He says if the head works out well you can carry on with the rest of the horse. The body of the horse consists of timber slabs laminated together for strength and bulk then the hand carving begins. Untold hours of patient shaping, carving and sanding follow until all details, including teeth, tongue and hooves meet with Jacks exacting standards. Finally the cow hair tail and mane are attached and the realistic brown glass eyes, made by another Menshed artisan are inserted. T

Date Jack has made 30 or so horses, all quite individual and unique and now, as one of Mensheds skilled craftsmen he is sharing his skills with others in the group. The current horse being created already has an interested purchaser but Jack is ambivalent and says if this doesnt eventuate the horse, like last years will be raffled for the Menshed. Murrumbateman Menshed is fortunate to have a member with Jacks skills and generosity as much of the equipment in use he has donated. He is also happy to advise and assist others because as he says with conviction Menshed has proved to be what many men need and enjoy.

In last Sundays wintry weather when the temperature struggled to reach eight degrees, hardy souls including some Murrumbatepersons, made the short trip to Crisps Galleries to be entertained to an afternoon of inspiring piano music played by well known Evgeny Ukhanov.

Warm applause greeted items by Chopin, Mussorgsky and Tschaikowsky played with great aplomb by the pianist despite his train trip from Sydney being delayed for three hours. While afternoon tea was served the audience had time to admire the exhibition of paintings by Russian artist, Galina Kizhapkina who was introduced by Peter Crisp. As always this informal space with quite amazing acoustics, was warm and welcoming and a great respite from the outside chill.
